Georgetown CA – Jewel of the Sierra Nevada’s
As a proud resident of the greater Auburn CA area and a Placer County real estate expert, I welcome you to my blog – “The Road to Tahoe.” Most travelers heading East on I 80 from Sacramento pass right by Auburn California on their way to beautiful Lake Tahoe, yet seldom stop to explore this amazing area. Few know these rolling foothills and the towns they house offer so much history and world-class recreation. In addition, the Greater Auburn area is a peaceful and family-friendly place to live.

My goal in writing The Road to Tahoe will be to introduce you to all the Greater Auburn area has to offer. Maybe next time you are heading up I 80, you might decide to pull over and have a look for yourself…. I’m sure you will love what you find.

I would like to start by introducing you to the adorable town of Georgetown CA. Just 20 miles east of Auburn California, this town is smack between Auburn and Placerville. Nicknamed the “Jewel of the Sierra Nevada’s,” a visit to charming old Georgetown feels like stepping back in time.

Must See Places

Gold miners settled the area in 1849 and a visit to the Georgetown Pioneer Cemetery is fascinating with headstones from early settlers dating back to 1850.

The Historic 1853 Victorian Mansion, once a saloon and gambling house, is now known as the American River Inn. This gem is now a Bed and Breakfast which features antique furnishings with a huge veranda overlooking Main St.

The Infamous Rubicon Trail where Jeepers Jamboree is held annually and 4 wheel enthusiasts navigate the scenic 22-mile wilderness trail starts from here. This rugged trail offers camping, lakes, fishing and pristine mountain scenery and is a popular bucket list adventure.

The South Fork of the American River, just 7 miles away, features World-class river rafting and tubing.

Art on the Divide Galleryan artist cooperative with unique offerings, is located on Main Street in a historic red brick building once known to house explosives for gold mining.

But wait there’s more! Horse back riding trails, hiking, biking, year round festivals and excellent wineries….and don’t forget its just a short drive to skiing at beautiful Lake Tahoe.
